    Since some have asked, we put together a document on our 'Meadow House' design and layout. It's not an architectural document, though it shows layout, measurements of some key items, colors for exterior/interior, product sources, etc: bit.ly/3vRQszE

    Lovely finds! I have a Nurse's Guide and Midwifery book that belonged to my great great great aunts. Some of the ideas and procedures in there are pretty hysterical! They were midwifes at the turn of the century. I am also blessed to be the caretaker of my great great grandmothers' handmade quilts. Such great treasures 😍

    The chess board is very beautiful. And the boot scrapper is really outstanding. Well done

    I am genuinely really impressed with your purchases! I think the boot-scraper probably tops my list but the studio crockery runs it darned close! I bet everyone has different preferences but none of that matters - my likes included, of course - only your preference matters.

    The one thing that piqued my concern are the spots on that old cook book. Can be caused by damp storage conditions, in which case you may want to put a packet that controls humidity conditions in the ziplock bag with the book. Depending on what caused the spots it may even pose a potential health hazard so wearing gloves or even a mask while handling it may be necessary.
    Beautiful auction finds overall, thanks so much for sharing them with us! :)

    I want to sit down and look through the bird book - what a great way to spend a summer afternoon on the porch. How cool that you found stuff with your name on them - would be really cool if it turned out you were related in some way.

    Wow! How fun! I can imagine that you will place your benches, in picture-perfect green-growing surroundings. This all reminds me of 2 photographers, at the Wisconsin State Fair. They provided old costumes and late 1800s full-room settings, in which we clothed ourselves and took a place, to be photographed, with an old-fashioned camera. The photo was also antique-looking, like an old western 'Wanted' poster. You are, in a similar way, setting the stage. I wish you appreciative, fascinated, honest guests. Bird books, chessboard and quilts are amazing. 🐦 Love your adventures. P. S. Maybe the checkerboard table, with it's marble base looked like a huge chess piece itself, which maybe matched the chess set. ♟

    The Ivory Billed Woodpecker, that you flipped to is extinct. Only have seen them in the Denver Natural History and science Museum. Stuffed of course, easily the size of a crow. I like that is was episodes of finds, then the woodpecker is in it. You found him! It's seems like some sort of esoteric conservation. Imagination, very important in these efforts. Thank you

    What fun! The Oakes chicken feeders and baskets were meant for you...since you had pet chickens, and you were saying that you would like to raise chickens. Perfect. Great finds...love old, antique pieces with character. I love the iron duck boot scraper. I don't think I've ever seen that. The copper spoon, checkerboard, quilts and pottery I really like. These pieces will look great in your main house and cottage. It adds uniqueness. Love these antique excursion and finds videos! Thanks, Summer. :)

    What a nice lot of treasures you found! That bird book is bigger than a coffee table LOL. Beautiful. You and your friends will enjoy that for a long time. Old books are my weakness, but my favorite pieces are the copper ladle and the checkerboard/chessboard. Maybe you can find a nice old set of wooden checkers to go with it. Your Meadow House is so beautiful!

    The Grandmother's quilt pattern is called a Dresdin Plate quilt. Not an easy quilt to make so enjoy it. Fitting those pieces together can be a pain, lol.

    Your great-grandmother's quilt is a type of Dresden Plate pattern, very popular 1920-40. Your's has pointy segments...some have rounded segments, but Dresden Plate.

    My family lived in Chautauqua County, NY from 1840-1930. I have 3 pieces of Cherry parlor chairs and furniture from North Carolina. My ancestors Israel Fairchild came from Canada, his wife Lucy Ann Losee Fairchild Benedict, from Oneida County. Israel was an abolitionist. I never met my Dad’s family. They died before I was born. I was told to look at newspapers for freed men and women. His son, George Francis Fairchild, may have married the daughter of the carpenter who made your chess/checkers board. I live in Hiram, Paulding, GA, and I wrote Murder on the Silver Comet Trail. Pickett’s Mill Battleground is in this county. There are cannons and re-enactments, a cabin, trails, and I always wondered if my father’s family died in battle so near me. I gave a chess set of the North and South to their library purchased the History channel.

    Such great finds! Do you think you’ll do anything to the cast iron duck to get rid of the rust?

    • @FlockFingerLakes
      @FlockFingerLakes  4 месяца назад +1

      Not sure considering it'll probably be outside under the awning any way. It's in really good shape overall. The bottom was really the only rusty bit, which is great because a nice flat surface is particularly easy to get the rust off. When I was removing the rust off the outdoor table with all the curves and flourishes, it was more challenging but still very doable: ruclips.net/video/b0UXVZNWp4k/видео.htmlsi=aB55EtwTnlxDzZ_V&t=218

      It's the patina, which is beautiful...but, maybe can use a little mineral oil, just to preserve the piece and keep from rusting further? It could bring out the natural dark iron color. You could test it on the bottom first, to see how it'll look. Mineral oil is not for cast iron cookware, though. For the duck, it would be ok?...but google to make sure. Or...just leave it as is. Very nice, either way.
